BYU Senior Who Loves People, Adventure, and Finding the Best Sweet Treats

Hi! I'm Darby, a BYU student studying Human Resources and a huge fan of all things BYU. Originally from Iowa, I'm proud to have called Provo home for the past 3 years. I served a Spanish-speaking mission in Paraguay and love meeting people from different backgrounds. Whether you're visiting campus for the first time or just want some local recommendations, I'd love to help you experience the places, traditions, and hidden gems that make this area feel like home. When I'm not studying, you can usually find me hiking, exploring new places with my husband, or hunting down the best local treats around town.

Describe your college experience

I had imposter syndrome coming into college, but the more I learned and more involved I became I was able to find my place. I am so bias toward my experience with BYU and not afraid to admit it.

Tip for future students

There are SO many resources I didn't know about including free therapy, clubs, and access to professors. I would tell someone to just get involved, but also not to get too overwhelmed by everything BYU has to offer. It's good to participate in what you can, but finding time to focus is just as important too.

Favorite class

Swing dancing! It was such a unique opportunity to get to meet other students and have a class that was purely for enjoyment. We even got to compete in a legitimate dance competition!

Career goals

I want to be an academic advisor! I'm hoping to get some experience now by mentoring students who I might be working with in the future.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to explore all the nature that Utah has to offer. I probably would spend my whole night hiking a new mountain and then eating dinner at the BYU Creamery after.

High school or secondary school

Ankeny High School

Favorite spot on campus

The BYU Duck pond! It's a great place to de-stress and it's also where I got engaged!
