BYU Construction Management major who is fun, easygoing, and loves life in Provo

Hey! My name is Ben and I love meeting new people, exploring Provo, and making the most of the college experience. I’m here to help you skip the awkward “where am I supposed to go?” phase and get straight to feeling like you belong. During the day, you can usually find me floating around campus—hitting the books at one of my secret library spots, chatting with professors, or taking a well-deserved grassy nap by the Maeser Building. I love the BYU family and can’t wait to make you a part of it! I’ll introduce you to students, professors, and all the people who make BYU feel like home. My goal is to help you find your people, get comfortable on campus, and feel at home from day one. I’ll show you the cool spots around campus, the best places to eat, spots to park, and—most importantly—the bathrooms you actually want to use. I’ll get you plugged into the Provo scene, show you the ropes, and help make your transition to BYU as smooth (and hopefully as fun) as possible. Think of me as your unofficial BYU tour guide, local connection, and bathroom consultant all in one.

Describe your college experience

Before starting college, I was a classic good student. I achieved A grades and performed well, but only because it was expected of me. Since starting college, however, I have discovered a genuine love for education. Learning in every sense brings me joy as I grow into a better and happier person. BYU has been the perfect environment to continue that journey because it combines the secular, spiritual, and social all in one place. I have loved my time at BYU and can't wait for what's ahead.

Tip for future students

I wish someone had stressed the importance of becoming before I started college. Going into it, I viewed college as little more than a speed bump standing between me, a job, and making money. Over the last year and a half, however, I’ve realized that college transforms you into a better person if you lean into the process. It gives you the time and opportunity to set goals, build new relationships, step outside your comfort zone, and learn as much as possible. This process of personal growth has become my passion, and it is something BYU has given me for which I am eternally grateful.

Favorite class

I have loved many of my classes, but Music 101 stands out from the rest. Although I initially took the class with little interest in the subject, I ended up developing a genuine passion for music history and theory. That class taught me to be inquisitive and to embrace learning about different cultures and history.

Career goals

I am currently deciding between a few potential career paths, all within the construction management field. My ultimate goal is to start my own business, likely specializing in custom homes or a similar area of residential construction.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is spent out on the town with the people I love. Whether we’re trying a new sushi spot, singing karaoke, or strolling down Center Street and popping into local shops, there’s nothing better than good friends, great music, and a little adventure. I’m always up for trying something new, but I’ll never turn down a camping weekend in the Uintas or a powder day on the slopes when winter rolls around. Basically, if good people and a good time are involved, count me in!

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus revolves around my favorite part of BYU: the people. On the west side of the bookstore, about ten tables and benches face inward toward the walkway. These are my favorite seats on campus. While BYU has plenty of beautiful, secluded nooks perfect for a quiet nap on the grass, I prefer this spot because of the energy surrounding it. I love the students and faculty here, and sitting here allows me to observe them as they pass by and imagine their stories. During passing periods, I’ll often sit with friends, watching people go about their day as they learn, grow, and strive together.
