Born and raised seminole, FSU tour guide!
Hello! My name is Bridget Shoemaker, and I’m a junior majoring in Communications here at Florida State University. I was born and raised right here in Tallahassee, so I know the ins and outs of both campus life and the surrounding community. I’m passionate about sharing everything that makes FSU special, and I bring an upbeat, energetic attitude to everything I do. I’d love the opportunity to help prospective students and families feel the same excitement I felt when I chose to become a Seminole!

Describe your college experience
My college journey started at Auburn University, where I initially majored in Psychology. While I enjoyed my time there, I quickly realized that it wasn’t the right fit for me. I made the decision to return home to Tallahassee and transfer to Florida State University—and it was the best choice I’ve made. Since transferring, I’ve switched my major to Public Relations, and I’ve found a strong sense of purpose and belonging here at FSU. This experience has taught me the importance of finding the right environment to thrive both personally and academically.
Tip for future students
One tip I’d give to future students is to not be afraid to explore and ask in depth questions. Whether it’s about your major, campus resources, or ways to get involved, I wish I had known earlier just how many opportunities FSU offers to help students. Don’t feel pressured to have everything figured out right away, college is a time for growth and discovery, and it’s okay to change direction along the way. Be open to the journey!
Favorite class
My favorite class thus far has been Media Techniques. This course dives deep into the impact of lighting, staging, and composition in photography and film, showing how these elements shape the mood and overall message of a scene. It really opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating the media we consume every day.
Career goals
I’m not completely sure what I want to do after college yet, but that’s one of the things I love about studying Communications, it’s such a broad field with so many exciting possibilities. I’m interested in roles that involve working with major corporations or in the entertainment industry, possibly representing brands or public figures. I’m keeping an open mind and looking forward to exploring different paths as I gain more experience.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is definitely getting out and enjoying the energy of FSU! There’s always something happening on or around Madison Street. Whether it’s grabbing food with friends, catching live music, or just soaking in the campus nightlife, It’s one of the things that makes being a student here so exciting.

Previous college
Auburn University. Transferring from Auburn to FSU was a big decision, but ultimately the right one for me. Coming back home to Tallahassee and joining the FSU community felt natural, and I’ve felt more confident and connected since making the switch. The transition was smoother than I expected, and I’m grateful for how welcoming and supportive FSU has been throughout the process.
