Hi, my name is Sydney and I am going into my sophomore year at Bates! I am on the varsity alpine ski team at Bates, but I'm also apart of a few clubs. I'm interested in either a sociology or politics major with a minor in Spanish, in hopes of attending law school after college. I'm a chatty, outgoing person! In my free time, I love hanging out with friends, going on walks, reading, and exercising.

Describe your college experience

So far, I have enjoyed my transition to college a lot. I attended boarding school for high school, which made my transition to college pretty easy. I have gotten so close with my teammates, made friends outside of my team, and taken really interesting classes. Overall, I feel like I'm apart of an amazing community at Bates.

Tip for future students

Join as many clubs and extracurriculars as you can! It's a great way to meet people and give back to your college's community. Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try things that you may be new to. All in all, be patient. Everyone's college experience is different, and some people have a more difficult adjustment than others, so trust the process.

Favorite class

Sociology of Culture: I took this class my second semester of freshman year, and enjoyed it a lot! The class had five people in it total, so all of our class time was spent in group discussions. Since the class was so small, I felt really comfortable speaking up and voicing my opinion. We also learned about really interesting topics!

Career goals

I hope to go to law school and pursue a career in law. I'm not entirely sure which type of law I want to one day practice, but I love Spanish, so I want to go into a career where I can use my Spanish skills as well.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Going out to eat in Lewiston with friends, getting ice cream in Commons, then having a movie night in someone's dorm!

Favorite spot on campus

A bench on the puddle. I love sitting and looking out at the puddle, and just having time to myself and to think. It's really peaceful, and beautiful.
