A student who's aware of the UC socially dead allegations and how to beat them

What's up! My name's Ian I'm a 4th year student, I've spent two years at Pasadena City College and two years at UC San Diego. I am aware of the transition between community college and university, and what tools you'll need to help your transferring journey. I have a part time job for UCSD's Esports program as a Valorant caster. When I have time to myself you can easily find me on the basketball court or in the gym. If you need any help on finding cool places in San Diego to go out at night, let me know!

Describe your college experience

My experience so far has been good. I was worried transferring would impact my ability to make friends, but I found a good community and friend group that I connect with. Transferring from a city college to a major university was a bit daunting at first, as the workload was more demanding. After some minor adjustments to the pace of school, I found my educational journey much easier.

Tip for future students

Please prioritize your studies over any social events, at the end of the day you are here to get your degree. But, this doesn't mean become a social outcast. Find a balance between new experiences and your education.

Favorite class

Comms190 Seminar, Professor Patrick Anderson was the most understanding, kind and entertaining instructor I've ever had in my life. His stories taught me life skills and lessons that I will cherish forever.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Pasadena City College

Favorite spot on campus

Sixth College is the by far the best college on campus. Top 3 dining hall, 2nd best market on campus, basketball court, plenty of outdoor seating for studying. Nice sunsets and lots of tall dorm buildings resembling the downtown of a city. Center of campus, so you'll commonly run into friends.

Meeting point

Triton Fountain on the University of California San Diego campus
