Senior ROTC Nursing Student

My name is Skyler, and I am a senior nursing student as well as a cadet in the Army ROTC program at UTK. I am a part of the color guard that presents the colors at university sporting events. I enjoy attending many different events on campus such as sports, concerts, and student engagement celebrations. I have also traveled to Europe for a study abroad sponsored by UTK and am involved in community service.

Describe your college experience

When I first arrived at UTK, I did not know anyone on campus but was able to make many connections and friendships through classes, ROTC, and clubs. I found numerous organizations and activities that interested me, so I was able to get involved around campus.

Tip for future students

Get involved around campus. There are so many activities to do and organizations to get involved in. If there is something you are looking to do, UTK probably has it, or you can be the one to start it. There are many opportunities on campus that are often overlooked, but if you look for them and get involved, you will have some amazing opportunities.

Favorite class

Nursing Care of the Adult (Med Surg) has been my favorite class so far because it linked all of the nursing information we have learned so far and teaches students how to apply this information to actual patient scenarios.

Career goals

After college, I will commission as a second lieutenant in the US Army and start as a med surg nurse. I hope to eventually become an operating room nurse and work at either a hospital or surgery center.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is either going to a concert with friends or watching sports either on campus or at home.
