Hey y'all My name is Whitney and I am a Senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, studying Forensic Anthropology. I have two minors one in Entomology and Plant Pathology and one in Italian. I am an out-of-state student from southern Ohio. I am an Air Force Brat and have lived all over the US and in Italy. I studied abroad in Bolonga, Italy summer of my freshman year, so if you have questions bout the study abroad processes and opourtunities let me know! UT is a top research university and has many opourtunnites to explore. Undergraduate research is highly encouraged. I spent dmy freshman through junior year a research assistant! It is a great way to make connections! In the fall, you can catch me cheering on the football team at Neyland Stadium. In the spring, you can see me watching baseball, either our lovely 2024 National Champs or our local minor league team. All year round I'm out in the Great Smoky Mountains, so if you need trail recs or camping spots, let me know!

Describe your college experience

Transitioning to college was pretty smooth for me, especially since I grew up moving a lot and attended three different high school. My dad was in the Air Force, so change was a normal part of life. When I got to UTK, I found it really easy to make friends (trust me, it’s easier than you think here). There’s a great sense of community, and with so many clubs and organizations for every interest and background, it’s easy to find your people and get involved. Being a senior now, I can honestly say UTK has felt like home.

Tip for future students

1.) get involved early, don't wait! 2.) Dont be afraid yo ask for help; TAs and professor sare here for a reason 3.) EXPLORE- there is so much on campus and in Knoxville! 4.)You don't have to have it all figured out!- explore what excited you! 5.) Take advantage of all the free stuff!

Favorite class

Mt favorite class has been either Primate Behavior, a class where we get to study monkeys and apes and even get to go to the zoo for free at least twice in the semester. My other option would be the History of Witches, we got to learn about how witches were perceived in different eras and places. We watched so many movies and tv shows discussing how witches have been portrayed in media too.

Career goals

After my four years here at UT, I plan to pursue a Master's and then a PhD! Eventually, when I do enter the work force I want to be a Forensic Anthroplogist working to identify and help tell the stories of victims.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I spend almost all of my free nights with my friends, whether it is at a local brewery getting drinks and chilling watching sports or having a movie or craft night in with my besties!
