Describe your college experience

I was at first nervous about making new friends and difficult classes, but I found a great circle in my freshman year floormates, and we decided to live together through senior year. My classmates have also been very kind and friendly, and I’ve made a lot of cool friends through group projects, research, internships, or even 3am sessions at the library. I also highly recommend checking out UCMAP (our martial arts program) I discovered it junior year and have made a lot of great bonds + learned practical skills through it.

Tip for future students

Berkeley has a lot of great courses outside of your major. I took several history classes for my L&S breadth requirements: the professors are all super approachable and knowledgeable and the content is really cool to learn about. My friends also recommend taking Astro C10 (our introductory astronomy class) before graduating. If you like running / hiking, there’s a lot of beautiful trails in the hills behind campus with views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been CS162 (Operating Systems), as it gave me a deeper understanding of how complex computers are under the hood, and I had a lot of fun (and bonding over sleepless nights) coding my own operating system with my project partners. I also really enjoyed SASIAN100B (Medieval and Modern South Asia) with Professor Faruqui, who is very kind and a phenomenal storyteller, and SLAVIC134N (Russia and Asia) with Professor Tyerman, who introduced me to some very beautiful and thought-provoking literature.

Career goals

I’ll be working as a software engineer after graduation, but I may decide to switch careers or go back for a masters degree later, and my dream is either become a graphic novelist or open a food truck.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Going on a night hike, getting hot pot or exploring SF with my friends.
