Your NYU big sister that will be there to give the best and most honest advice!

Hey! My name is Raveena and I am a drama major at NYU Tisch in the New Studio on Broadway, and I am pursuing a minor in the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology. I grew up in a beach town in California, and moved across the country knowing no one. It was the best decision I made. My professors are professionals currently working in the industry, and my peers help me grow every day and have turned into my best friends I know I will have for life. NYU had also gave me so many opportunities, such as studying abroad at RADA in London, and joining the NYU soccer club. Aside from school, I love to read, go on walks, trying new recipes, and I am ALWAYS down for a sweet treat. I want to show prospective students how life-changing NYU can be for them as it was for me!

Describe your college experience

I have loved my time at college and my time at NYU. NYU was at the top of my list for its prestigious drama program and networking opportunities. I have also realized during my time here, that going to college in a city is the best way to experience college. The city is truly our campus. This is such a blessing as the city is filled with amazing people from different walks of life. I not only have become a student that is receiving a world-class education, but I’ve also become a better person, which is I think is equally important!

Tip for future students

I would invest in a citi bike membership, which you can get through NYU FCU. I would also take advantage of all the student perks you can get through NYU. You can get into many of the museums and historical landmarks for free or heavily discounted rates. Do you research on your benefits!

Favorite class

I love all my studio classes, but one of my favorites is Clown into Shakespeare. Taking the Shakespeare’s language and changing its perspective on the genre through clown games and exercises made me fall in love with Shakespeare’s work even more.

Career goals

Being a drama major, I hope I use my skills I’ve learned to act both on stage and film. I am also a writer and composer and would love to utilize that. Hopefully I can pair this with some of the skills I’ve learned in my Entertainment Business minor, where I will hope to seek jobs in some of the indie or major production companies in LA or NY.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love a balance of a spending a night in with my roommate and having a movie night, or going out with friends to jazz clubs or sweet treats! I also always look at NYU scholastic for any free shows/discounts that are being offered.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus in Washington Square Park. The park really feels like our school quad. I love studying on the grass and spending time with friends there. Wash is especially beautiful during the fall! And as the city is our campus, central park feels like a breath of fresh air if you need a step back from bustling noises of the city.
