Your fun-loving UCSD insider for opportunities, events & hidden gems! 💖

Hi! My name is Courtney, and I’m a Human Biology major aspiring to become a Physician Associate. I’m also planning to minor in Human Developmental Science and/or Global Health (I know, I’m eager 😭). I’m Malaysian Chinese and transferred from Malaysia to Irvine before making my way to UCSD! I currently live off-campus, conveniently close to all the good food and boba spots. I’m also multilingual! I speak Mandarin and Korean, and I’m currently learning ASL and Spanish. I love exploring new things, so you can usually spot me everywhere on campus, especially at events with free food (I know all the good food events 💫). UCSD has so much to offer, and I’ve definitely tried to make the most of it! I’ve taken fencing, aerial silk yoga, aerial hoop, archery, roller skating, and pretty much every other free REC class they offer. (I really did try most of them) If you’re someone who’s ambitious and looking for opportunities, I know about tons of resources on and around campus, from volunteering and leadership opportunities to on- and off-campus jobs. And if you’re someone who just wants to have fun and make the most of your college experience, I’m always down to join events and try something new. One day, you might find me painting a mini canvas, and the next, I’ll be boxing! Feel free to ask me as many questions as you want — I’d LOVE to help and share whatever I know! 💖

Describe your college experience

My transition as an international student was not the smoothest. However, the opportunities I get at UCSD were plenty. People are all amazing and there is always something fun to do! I love attending events for social activities, arts and crafts, or free food.

Tip for future students

Things I wish I knew would be the opportunities available. Many of the opportunities I found have passed their deadlines when I discover them. I would talk to more people like the counselor, mentors, or seniors who can introduce you the opportunities available as some of them are not listed online.

Favorite class

My favorite class is an ASL class that I took at UCSD. I love learning new languages, and it was a very unique class. The professor was the best. It was 8am class, but she made it very engaging and fun to learn!

Career goals

I aspire to be a Physician Associate!

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is either hanging out with friends, trying new dessert place, karaoke, or going to the beach. If I had a long week, I’d stay cozy and watch movies in my room.

High school or secondary school

Previous college

Irvine Valley College

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot would be the Geisel Library. I love the silent study area and view at 8th floor. I focus well there and get many work done! I even took my ASL conversation exam there.
