Whimsical accounting major who knows the best places to get a sweet treat

Hi! My names Monce and I was born in Ventura, Ca but currently reside in Morelia, Mexico. I’m a sophomore on a pre-accounting track and Blenders #1 tropical mango customer. I have taken a plethora of different classes at UCSB and can give you recommendations. I am also knowledgeable about the many resources this school has to offer.

Describe your college experience

I honestly had a bad experience, my roommate situation was terrible and I had felt isolated and alone the first quarter. However I got much closer to my friends who are currently my roommates and I even became friends with my coworkers. The last quarter I began to love UCSB and am glad I chose this school. The switch to the quarter system was stressful but UCSB provides so much tutoring and support that I eventually grew to love it.

Tip for future students

I recommend students don’t start a job their first quarter. I recommend they take all the resources and tutoring they can get as the quarter system can be hard to adapt to in such a short time frame. I recommend they attend their professors office hours as they are great people and it can give clarity since you likely will struggle. I also would encourage them to join clubs if they have the chance or get involved in the community.

Favorite class

My favorite class was EACS4A, which is East Asian studies premodern. I chose this class because I never learned much about Asian history in high school and I got to learn so much about the premodern history of China, Japan, and South Korea. The professors also made the class interesting enough to go to lecture and the grading was fair. Moreover, the weekly quizzes were easy to do and only required you to do the very minimal readings they assigned.

Career goals

I want to pass the CPA exam to become an auditor at a big 4 accounting firm, hopefully Deloitte or KPMG

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal night is getting ready with my roommates and going to a band show. After that ends we can head to the beach and swim or tad pool for a little bit. If we get hungry we can get some pizza at the IV pizza pub and ice cream at the 7/11 by the loop. And before we shower and go to sleep, play some video games on my console.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot is the 6th floor library at UCSB as it’s the only place I can truly study.
