University of Michigan Upper-Classmen, Neuroscience & Pre-Med Track
Hi! My name is Jaanvi (pronounced John-V), and I am a rising junior at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I am a Michigan-native and I am lucky to be involved at the LSA Department of Psychology (ranked #3 in the USA). I would love to tour you around our campus and answer any questions, especially about pre-med trajectories and public health interests. My values are transparency and optimism (I am Michigan's #1 cheerleader and critic). You can count on me to answer your questions honestly as you decide whether the University of Michigan is the right fit for you :)

Describe your college experience
Freshman year was so fun -- everything was new, and I pushed myself to make friendships. Sophomore year definitely got harder because I started to take organic chemistry (I can give you advice on how to survive it here!), so it served as a period for reflection and rapidly improving my study techniques. With that learning experience, I am SO excited for junior year and to take upper-level psychology and neuroscience coursework.
Tip for future students
Refine your interested college list so that they are going to serve your academic and career interests. Prestige is only helpful if you can genuinely see yourself attending that school.
Favorite class
PSYCH 270 - Introduction to Abnormal Psychology (study of mental health conditions)
Career goals
Take a gap year to work as a medical assistant in a psychiatric care setting and get my Masters of Public Health. Go to medical school to hopefully become a psychiatrist.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Get pizza at NYPD on campus and sing karaoke with friends. Wrap up the night with a cold Dr. Pepper and a good historical fiction novel.
High school or secondary school
Novi High School
Favorite spot on campus
This always changes! Right now, it would be the Law Quad. You feel transported to Hogwarts ;)
