Hello! I'm Corvidae, a dual-degree student studying Art History and Information Science in hopes of becoming a librarian or archivist one day. I am a massive fan of fantasy, horror, and anime. In fact, I'm actually the Vice President of the Terrapin Anime Society, UMD's very own anime club! I also enjoy writing fiction, and am a member of the Jiménez–Porter Writers' House. When I'm not biking from class to class or running an anime convention, I like checking out various events on and around campus! I know a good number of lovely spots that are well worth visiting.

Describe your college experience

The thing that shocked me the most about college was how surprisingly normal the whole thing felt. Adjusting was easy, as though I were always meant to be there. I did spend two years as a Mechanical Engineering major before switching to my current dual degree program, but even that ordeal has been a part of my journey that I would not consider wasted.

Tip for future students

I really recommend coming in with an open mind regarding your aspirations. It is very easy to get attached to the idea of embodying a specific role in the future, which might prevent you from finding something you enjoy more. I came in as an engineering student, and I was so attached to the idea of being an engineer, of not being a quitter, that I refused to change my major until it was almost too late. I'm much happier now in Art History and InfoSci, though. So don't be afraid to explore and change your goals! Over half of all college students change their major at least once, so it's perfectly normal.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been ENGL319C - Special Topics in Science, Literature, and Media; From Frankenstein to Dracula: the Monstrous and Fantastic in Nineteenth-Century Literature. I am a massive fan of gothic horror, so this class catered to my interests very nicely.

Career goals

After I finish undergrad, I plan on pursuing an MLIS in hopes of becoming a librarian or archivist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I really like checking out shows in the local music scene around DC. When I'm not doing that, I'll either be hanging out with friends or spending some time in my dorm watching a comfort show.

Favorite spot on campus

I am very fond of the Singh Sandbox. They have plenty of tools available for any sort of craft you can think of, all for free! From 3D printing to sewing, there is very little you can't accomplish there.
