UCSD Human Bio, campus employment + research + volunteer + study abroad!
My name is Sabrina and I am a second-year Human Biology undergrad! I am a Student Lead Technician with the ITS Service Desk and a volunteer research assistant with the Reyes Lab in lung cellular biology. I also have plenty of volunteer experience in different departments including UCSD Health's hospital and Student-Run Free Clinic, the Basic Needs Hub, the Preuss School, and different pre-health student organizations. In my free time, I enjoy singing and dancing, and performed with Kaibigang Pilipino's Pilipino Cultural Celebration in the Kantahan choir. I lived oncampus at Muir College for my first two years of college and participated in a Study Abroad Global Seminar in Tokyo, Japan last summer!

Describe your college experience
Moving to UCSD was my first time away from my hometown and my parents. I had such transformative experiences here, including my study abroad in Tokyo which was the first time I had ever left the country. College has really opened up new perspectives for me, with new people from all over the world coming together in all of my different classes and commitments. I've become a more social person who takes the initiative for social and professional opportunities.
Tip for future students
Start learning how to study and manage your time! If you don't use a calendar app/tool, I'd recommend starting it now. I also didn't realize how useful having an integrated tech ecosystem and a tablet was for notes and review, and wish I had gotten it sooner.
Favorite class
My favorite class is TDMV 138, Intro to Hip-Hop. I had some dance experience on a student-led team in high school, but I didn't have time for it once I enrolled in college. Through this class and an amazing instructor Dr. Grace Jun, I have found my passion for dance again, met a diverse set of students, and get a great workout in twice a week!
Career goals
I am a pre-med student and want to pursue a BS/MS at UCSD or take a gap year to work before applying to medical school.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love going out to karaoke with my friends or resting at home after a long week of work watching a movie.
