Clubs, organizations & involvement

UCLA Undergraduate Research – Participated in biochemistry and molecular biology research projects involving laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific documentation. Volunteer Tutor – Taught TOEFL speaking, English, chemistry, and biology to high school students, helping students improve academic performance and communication skills. Tsinghua University – Research Intern (Infrared Spectroscopy & Bacterial Detection) Participated in a research internship focused on using infrared spectroscopy techniques to detect and analyze bacteria. Assisted with sample preparation, laboratory procedures, data collection, and interpretation of experimental results while learning about spectroscopy applications in biological research.

Describe your college experience

Moving to college was a big adjustment, especially as an international student. It took time to adapt to a new academic system, culture, and environment, but those experiences helped me become more independent and confident. Since then, I’ve gotten involved in research, joined the UCLA Figure Skating Club, and built friendships with people from many different backgrounds. College has challenged me both academically and personally, and I’ve really enjoyed exploring everything UCLA and Los Angeles have to offer while growing as a student and as a person.

Tip for future students

Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone early. Go to club meetings, attend office hours, and talk to professors even if you don’t have a specific question. UCLA has so many opportunities, but they usually don’t come to you—you have to take the initiative. Also, don’t stress if you don’t have everything figured out during your first year. Everyone is adjusting, and it’s completely normal to take some time to find your community and your interests.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Biochemistry 153 series in UCLA. Because it helped me understand how the concepts I learned in chemistry and biology come together to explain how the human body works.

Career goals

After college, I hope to build a career in biotechnology or healthcare, where I can combine science, research, and problem-solving to develop solutions that improve people’s lives. I’m also interested in continuing to learn through research and exploring opportunities that bridge science, innovation, and real-world impact.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is grabbing dinner with friends, exploring a new coffee shop or restaurant in LA, and then relaxing with a movie or going skating. Sometimes I also enjoy working on photography or catching up on a good book if I want a quieter evening.
