Describe your college experience
My first year at UCSC definitely took some adjustment, especially when it came to being away from home. Though I quickly made so many connections across campus and was immersed in such compelling classes. The education I receive here really challenges me, and living alongside the nature adds to the environment wonderfully. I quickly grew to love this school.
Tip for future students
Put yourself out there! In college, nobody (besides a very encouraging friend maybe) is going to force you to go out and meet people. It is really important to establish connections and friendships during your time here so that you have the chance to find more resources and opportunities, and also just so you aren't lonely. Talk to the people in your classes and on your floor! Make a point to meet with your professors and TAs as well.
Favorite class
It has to be comparative politics (POLI 60) with Prof. Serres. This course was about highlighting politics and governments in the Global South, which are often overlooked in a lot of Western classrooms. We particularly learned a lot about Indian and Brazilian politics, which I found incredibly interesting. I got to apply much of my writing skills, and I still think about this class often.
Career goals
I've considered a few paths, such as urban planning, historical research positions, becoming a professor, or even something more computer science-oriented.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love going out on walks with my friends, or watching movies and playing games after having a nice meal.
High school or secondary school
Evergreen Valley High School
Favorite spot on campus
East Field is one of the most gorgeous spots on campus. It overlooks the ocean and has a path I walk laps on when I need to get my steps in. Going there always calms me down.
