Tepper student who knows the best parts of CMU beyond the brochure
Hi, I’m Mustafa, a business student at Tepper and someone who genuinely loves being at CMU. When I first arrived, I was excited about the academics, but it was the people, traditions, unexpected experiences, and little things around campus that made CMU feel like home. I’ve explored a lot of what campus has to offer and love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and helping them feel comfortable in a new environment. I’d love the chance to give prospective students and families a tour that feels less like a scripted walkthrough and more like an honest look at what life at CMU is actually like.

Describe your college experience
Coming to the US from Pakistan has been an amazing experience. The transition had its challenges, like adjusting to a new country, a new culture, and being far from home, but it's honestly been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. I've grown a lot, met people from all over the world, and found a real sense of community on campus. Every day I feel like I'm learning something new, both in and out of the classroom, and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
Tip for future students
My biggest tip for future students is to put yourself out there early. Get involved in clubs, talk to people, and don't be afraid to try new things, because that's how you build friendships and find your place. Also, stay on top of your work from the start instead of leaving everything to the last minute. It makes the whole semester a lot less stressful and gives you more time to actually enjoy college.
Favorite class
My favorite class has probably been Business Leadership. It stood out because it wasn't just theory out of a textbook, we actually worked in teams on real projects, which meant learning how to delegate, handle disagreements, and keep people motivated toward a shared goal. I came in thinking leadership was mostly about being in charge, but the class taught me it's really about listening, adapting to different personalities, and knowing when to step back and let others take the lead. Those are skills I use constantly now, and they're a big part of why I think I'd be a good fit for a role like a campus tour guide, where you're guiding a group and reading the room in real time.
Career goals
After college, I plan to join my family's business and help expand it. We currently work in the tobacco industry across Pakistan, the UAE, and the wider Gulf region, and my goal is to grow the business by exporting to new markets around the world. I'm excited to bring what I'm learning in school into the real world and take the business to the next level.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night is pretty simple. I love hanging out with friends, ordering some good food, and playing FIFA. Sometimes we'll head out and roam around the city too. It's a nice way to relax and unwind after a busy week of classes.

Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot to study is the pods in the Tepper School of Business. They're quiet, comfortable, and perfect for focusing. And when it comes to food, Scotty's Market is my go-to for a quick bite between classes.
