Student Leader Active in a Myriad of Activities Throughout Hampden Sydney

Myles B
Myles BNew

I am a sophomore in the Class of 2028 and am actively involved in multiple areas of the campus community. I enjoy spending time outdoors through camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and hunting. During my time on campus, I have worked to stay engaged, contribute meaningfully, and leave a positive impact on both those around me and future students. My academic and personal interests include economics, national security, and the continued development of my leadership abilities.

Describe your college experience

My college experience has been unique and meaningful. Hampden-Sydney College has offered me many opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and involvement in the campus community. My transition to college challenged me to become more independent, manage my time, and step outside my comfort zone. So far, I have valued the diverse paths for personal development that Hampden-Sydney provides, and I continue to grow from the relationships, experiences, and challenges I have encountered here.

Tip for future students

- Be personable not allowing outside influence to corrupt your true self - Know your personal values and expand upon them through self reflection relative to how they can be developed in your next educational environment - Be actively openminded and comfortable with the unknown

Favorite class

My favorite course, INDS 440: Leadership Ethics, significantly enhanced my self-awareness as a leader and strengthened my emotional intelligence through hands-on learning and reflection.

Career goals

I hope to pursue a fulfilling career, even though the exact path has yet to fully materialize, as I continue to explore my interests and grow both personally and professionally.

Ideal way to spend a free night

If I had a free night I would saddle up and bike the local High Bridge Trail, approximately 10-15 minutes from campus. No matter the time of year you are guaranteed beautiful scenery and wildlife.
