Stanford Student & Palo Alto Native
Hi, my name is Turner McFarland, and I'm a rising sophomore at Stanford University. I grew up in Palo Alto, so I'm very familiar with the Stanford campus and surrounding areas. I'm interested in studying mathematics. Stanford is an amazing place, and I look forward to hosting you on a tour!

Describe your college experience
I've loved being more independent, meeting new people, and trying new things. I've found some of my closest friends and discovered new hobbies, all from trying new things and meeting new people. I've tried to be involved as possible around campus during my freshman year, and I think it really paid off.
Tip for future students
Explore classes and majors during your freshman year. The majors here are designed to be completed in 2-3 years, so you have time to find what you enjoy.
Favorite class
Math 53: Differential Equations & Fourier Methods. I really enjoy math, and this class was challenging, useful, and the instructor was amazing.
Career goals
I'm still figuring it out, but I want to move to New York for at least a few years.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Watch a show/movie, hang out with friends, get dinner.
High school or secondary school

Turner was great. He toured us all around the beautiful Stanford campus with lots of “inside” stories and tips from the perspective that only a current student can have. Better than an official tour!
