Sophomore studying computer engineering and AI at Northwestern
Hey everyone! I'm Roli, a Northwestern student from Laredo, Texas, pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering & AI and a Master's in Computer Science. When I'm not studying or coding, I'm highly active around campus. I am the founder of a 6-person startup, serve as council relations chair for my fraternity, and co-captain intramural basketball and soccer teams. I'm also the proud owner of a 7-year-old cat named Kermit! I love sharing my campus experience and can't wait to show you what makes our collaborative engineering and student culture so unique. Ask me anything about balancing academics, tech projects, or student life!

Describe your college experience
I have had a blast coming to Northwestern. I come from a small town, and being able to meet so many new people has been truly amazing. There are so many social, academic, and professional opportunities here as well, which I try to take full advantage of. Overall, I have enjoyed my time here, but the cold took some getting used to.
Tip for future students
One tip for future students is not to procrastinate on things you are passionate about. It is really easy to put things off until later, like joining clubs or starting a project, because they feel daunting, but that is usually the hardest step. If you are truly passionate about something, make time in your day and prioritize starting and working towards it.
Favorite class
I have really loved computer science so far because it feels like a class where I have to think and solve problems with a variety of possible answers. It is not as formulaic as math or physics, which I really like.
Career goals
I am hoping to go into the tech, fintech, finance, or consulting field. I am currently interested in Quantitative Finance and Software Engineering roles in these fields. Lastly, my top favorite company after visiting this spring is Janestreet, as their office seems really progressive, and there is a lot of room to grow. Following these careers, I would like to retire early and work on a business that likely involves building a website or app.
Ideal way to spend a free night
On a weekday, I would most likely catch up on work, watch YouTube or a show, or, if I am truly out of it, doomscroll and go to sleep. On the weekends, however, I try to always make time (unless there is an exam) to spend time with my friends and go out.
