Describe your college experience

Coming to UW-Madison was both exciting and challenging. As a first-generation college student, there was a lot to learn about navigating college life, but I quickly found a community through the Wisconsin School of Business and several student organizations. Getting involved early helped me make friends, build professional connections, and feel at home on campus. Academically, I've enjoyed challenging myself while exploring subjects I'm passionate about. Outside the classroom, I've learned how to balance coursework with extracurricular activities, career development, and enjoying everything Madison has to offer. My experience has shown me that there are countless opportunities at UW-Madison, and I'd love to help prospective students discover the ones that best fit their own goals and interests.

Tip for future students

One of the biggest things I wish I had known before starting at UW-Madison is how important it is to get involved early. Classes are important, but the real difference comes from joining organizations, attending events, and building relationships with professors and peers from the beginning. I’d also tell future students not to be afraid of the size of campus. It can feel overwhelming at first, but you’ll quickly find your people and routines. Exploring different classes, clubs, and opportunities early on helps you figure out what fits you best. Finally, don’t underestimate how much support is available here! From academic advising and career services to student organizations and undergraduate research opportunities, there are a lot of people and resources ready to help, you just have to take the first step and use them!

Favorite class

My favorite class has been one of my introductory actuarial science courses focused on interest theory. It was the first class where calculus stopped feeling like abstract homework problems and actually showed up in the real world in a way that made sense. It was also taught by a professor with over 15 years of experience as a practicing actuary, which made the material feel really grounded in real industry applications. Seeing how the math connects to things like loans, savings, and investments made it feel much more practical and easy to connect with, and it definitely made the class more enjoyable.

Career goals

I hope to become a fully credentialed Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) working as an Actuarial professional in consulting or insurance services.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is pretty simple, grabbing food with friends, catching up, and then finding something to do around the amazing city of Madison. Whether that’s going to a Badger football game (win or, unfortunately, probably lose) or another event on or around campus, there's always something go on. That could mean walking down State Street, catching a concert at Capitol Square, or sitting at the Memorial Union Terrace overlooking Lake Mendota. I also like mixing in UW campus spots like checking out the physics, geology, or art museums, grabbing ice cream from our very own UW–Madison dairy cows, or trying something different like bowling, rock climbing, and ice skating right on campus. I like when it’s low-pressure and unplanned, where you can just relax and enjoy the city with friends without worrying about classes or schedules amongst the vibrant city campus environment.
