Hi! My name is Ella, and I'm a Duke University sophomore studying public policy, Spanish, and journalism. At school, I'm an editor for the newspaper, the vice president of communications for our women in business association, an impact-focused consulting analyst, and a scholar in women's leadership, among some other involvements. You can find me taking long walks around campus, cheering on any of our sports teams (not just basketball, but we are amazing!), and animatedly talking about our world's breaking news. I'm positive but realistic, making me somewhat of an open book.

Describe your college experience

Coming from a small all-girls school made my transition to Duke quite a jump. Academically, I felt ready to enter the college environment, but socially, I had to adjust to the bigger environment. I think it felt jarring at first, but by joining clubs, talking to my classmates and dorm neighbors, and just being myself, I quickly made Duke home.

Tip for future students

You don't have to come in with a game plan. College is only four short years, so it felt easy for me to arrive as an overly eager freshman with a detailed plan for how I was going to spend my time. Some of that plan has worked out, but much of it has been thrown out the window. My most meaningful and fun moments in college have come from being spontaneous and curious. By treating these years as a time to grow and discover yourself, you'll maximize your intellectual, personal, and career opportunities and achievements.

Favorite class

Neoliberalism and Pop Culture. My professor perfectly synthesized the two disciplines to offer a really insightful class on economics, society, and the way our media influences policy.

A career in business, policy, or media.

Running around town or campus with my closest friends, grabbing a bite to eat, and talking and singing until the night's end.
