Second Year Student at Northwestern University

Hi! My name is Sarah, I'm a second year at Northwestern studying Biology and Economics with a minor in Data Science(Python Track) from the North Chicago Suburbs. Outside of class I am involved in one of our Multicultural Greek Life Chapters, Kappa Phi Lambda as well as our club swim team. I spent my first year living in one of our residential college North Mid Quads(NMQ) also known as the Public Affairs Residential College(PARC). I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and give an insight into what studying at Northwestern looks like!

Describe your college experience

It was definitely a learning curve for sure, it's a lot to be in a new environment and making new friends on top of looking for all the clubs you want to join and classes. Although it is a super busy time, I've had a great experience so far, meeting people has definitely been a highlight. Everyone is super welcoming and always wants to see you succeed. There are also many support systems in place with all the advisors you can reach out to and upperclassmen that are super approachable and just want to help.

Tip for future students

I wish I'd known about all the opportunities before I arrived on campus. Everything is super fast paced due to the quarter system and I really wish I looked into more of the different clubs and opportunities before I got onto campus.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been BIO 201. It is the first course of the biology sequence you must take as a Biological Sciences Major in Spring of your Freshman year. It is one of the biggest classes but it is so much fun as there is a collaboration element implemented for both Problem Sets and Exams which allow you to meet new people and spend time with friends you already met while taking the prerequisite class which is General Chemistry.

Career goals

Currently I am unsure what I would like to do after college, but I am exploring my options in the industry with business and healthcare as well as looking into graduate school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is usually hanging out with friends. Everyone is always so busy all the time so being able to take a step away and hangout with friends is always a good way to destress and have some fun.
