Reflective engineering & philosophy major who has a lot to say
Hi! My name's Clare and I'm a Junior studying Electrical & Computer Engineering, Philosophy, and Mathematics with a minor in Engineering Management. I was a sophomore transfer and so would love to provide insight on how life is integrating into the Vanderbilt community as a transfer! On campus I'm involved with Society of Women Engineers, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and also work a part-time job with the IT Department. I receive financial aid and work-study, and so I can provide insight onto that process. I'm extroverted, and love to walk (I have a 5 month old GSD puppy named Miko, so good thing lol!), so I would love to show y'all around campus and answer any questions you may have!

Describe your college experience
I was definitely nervous to transfer to a new university, but Vanderbilt has such a huge transfer population, I found a community very easily! Of course, there are downsides of attending a prestigious university (ie. the clubs are extremely selective), but overall, Vanderbilt does a wonderful job providing its students with a tremendous amount of opportunity!
Tip for future students
get organized quickly in the beginning of each year and join SO many clubs
Favorite class
My favorite class has been a philosophy class called Meaning of Life. It grapples with the finite nature of life, death, and everything in between. I've been fascinated with the subject for a long time so to have a discussion-based class where I could hear other people's ideas on the matter, as well as formally study readings on the topic, was really fulfilling!
Career goals
Technical Product Management, and then eventually becoming a commercial pilot!
Ideal way to spend a free night
Going to the gym to lift and play basketball, then getting dinner with friends and hanging out
High school or secondary school
Livingston High School
Previous college
Rutgers University
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is Rand at lunchtime because there are just so many people there, and there are always clubs tabling outside. Other than that, it would probably be Featheringhill Hall just since it's where all my classes are and where I study most of the time.
