Public health major ready to give you the inside scoop on UGA and Athens, GA!
Hi, I’m Sophie! I’m a senior Health Promotion major from Savannah, and I’m actually staying on at UGA through the Double Dawgs pathway to get my Master’s in Health Administration. I serve as an Ambassador for the College of Public Health, I’m involved in Greek life, and if you see me around campus, I’ve basically always got a coffee in hand. I love UGA and I’m excited about the chance to share that with prospective students and families.

Describe your college experience
I have loved every second of UGA. It was definitely hard to adjust to moving away from home, but I am independent and found my footing quickly. I grew up a UGA fan as both my parents attended so I had a lay of the land before freshman year. It has truly lived up to everything I had hoped, and I have found incredible community in Athens.
Tip for future students
College is what you make it! It’s not going to look the same for everyone. Seek community you identify with and that makes you feel valued and appreciated for your most authentic self. Give yourself grace, and be kind to those around you because they’re just trying to figure it out too. More than anything, reach out. If you want a village, be a villager! Put yourself out there, even if it scares you. You’ll never know unless you try.
Favorite class
I loved Foundations of Health Promotion because it cemented my passion for the major and my decision to join the College of Public Health. I learned so much about public health intervention and the social determinants of health and formed a close relationship with my peers and faculty members. It got me excited for the curriculum to come.
Career goals
I will be applying to get my masters at UGA and hopefully will be pursuing my graduate degree in Athens during the 2027-2028 school year. After that, I want to work within a hospital system on leadership or administration.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love going out to dinner with close friends, bonus points if there is outdoor seating and the weather is nice. I have found dinner is best finished with dessert and a decaf coffee. After that, it is the three Bs: bath, book, bed.

Favorite spot on campus
North campus is my favorite because of the greenery and architecture. It truly feels like you stepped into a story book. During the fall, it is beautifully orange and red and as it shifts to spring, it becomes green and vibrant. The library and fountain are on north campus and are two of my favorite landmarks. I also have to mention The Arch that separates north campus and downtown because seeing it has always felt so full circle
