Hello! My name is Addy and I am a pre-med student double majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish while seeking a certificate in Health and the Humanities. I am involved in several student organizations, such as the Bioethics Club, Knitting for a Cause, the Badger Ballroom Association, and AED (the pre-health honor society), where I serve as a member of the professional development committee. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading, and hanging out with friends. I also love music, and enjoy going to both on-campus and off-campus events. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring, and work as a swim instructor during the summers. This year, I am looking to get more involved in the local community, volunteering, researching, and working. Describe your college experience

My first year of college was a time of growth and adjustment. I experienced a lot of homesickness throughout the year, but over time I built close friendships that helped me feel more involved and comfortable on campus. I also realized that balancing academics with the college experience was important. After taking a heavy course load with plans to graduate in three years, I decided to slow down, enjoy the experience more, and change my academic plan to graduate in four years instead.

Tip for future students

The transition to college can be long and varying. You may have a lot of expectations coming in as to what college looks like, but the student experience is different for everybody, and it may not live up to those expectations right away. There will be days that are harder and days that are easier, just remember to give yourself time!

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been Spanish 226. It was a smaller class of around 20 people, which helped me connect more to my fellow students and my professor.

Career goals

After college, I will be attending medical school to become a pediatrician.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My friends and I started doing a weekly movie night! Last year we either walked State St. to find dinner, or went to one of the dining halls before we watched a movie. We loved to eat garbage food while watching cringy rom-coms, and more often than not we talked through the whole thing. Movie nights were a great way to destress, and were some of my favorite of the school year.

Previous college

While I'm not a transfer student, I do have experience with transferring credits to the UW system. During high school, I took quite a few dual enrollment classes through three different schools. Needing to get four transcripts (one from my high school) and dealing with the stress of timing up everything was difficult and pretty expensive, but it was so worth it as I ended up having most of my general education requirements fulfilled, plus two of my major requirements!
