Hi! I'm a sophomore Biological Sciences major at Pitt on the pre-Veterinarian track. I work as a research assistant in a DNA replication lab at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, I'm involved in campus clubs, and I balance rigorous science coursework with a range of other classes. Between research, academics, and extracurriculars, I've had to get good at time management — and I love passing that kind of practical advice on to incoming freshmen. As someone who speaks English, Gujarati, and Spanish, I also value Pitt's diverse community and enjoy helping guests from all backgrounds feel welcome. I've given tours before and genuinely enjoy connecting with prospective students and their families — I want you to leave your visit excited about Pitt!

Describe your college experience

My transition to college was rocky at first — I experienced a loss in my family right as I arrived at Pitt, and on top of that, my coursework was a big step up from high school. It took time to adjust, but learning how to adapt through a tough season has been one of the biggest lessons of my life. Now, college is honestly so much fun — I never had a solid friend group in high school, and at Pitt I've found multiple groups I fit in well with. I've come out of this first year more resilient and genuinely in love with my school.

Tip for future students

Stay on top of your coursework, even when it feels like you don't need to study yet — don't rely on the assumption that you already know everything for an exam, because you can always know more. Stay organized, and balance your social life with your schoolwork, but don't lose sight of why you're here in the first place.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been my English Composition Seminar for freshmen — we analyzed psychological thriller movies, which made the material genuinely fun and engaging. It was a low-stress class with a lot of room to connect with my peers, the homework was actually enjoyable, and I had a wonderful professor. It's the kind of class that reminds you college can be intellectually stimulating and fun at the same time.

Career goals

After college, I'm hoping to go on to either vet school or pharmacy school — I'm still deciding between the two. Vet school would be my dream path, and long-term, I'd love to open my own veterinary practice one day.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love spending free nights getting involved — whether that's Greek life events, movie nights with friends, or one of Pitt's weekend events (there's always something fun happening for any grade level). I also enjoy charity events, exploring downtown Pittsburgh, taking a quick bus ride to Bakery Square, or just going shopping with friends. There's honestly always something to do here, which is one of my favorite things about Pitt.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is Posvar. It has so many different types of seating and chairs, which makes for a great change of scenery and helps me focus. There's an Einstein Bros. Bagels right there for a great study snack, and with multiple floors and tons of space, it has a nice underground, tucked-away feel. It's honestly the spot that helps me focus the most.
