Outgoing psychology major on the pre-med track
Hi! I'm Angela, a sophomore from Maryland who chose to stay in-state because UMD is such a great school with an excellent reputation. I love exploring both campus and the surrounding area, which usually involves trying new foods because I’m a big foodie! I also love taking the Metro into DC on side quests to my favorite museums, restaurants and stores. I’d be more than happy to show you around, share my experience at UMD, and give you my honest opinions and recommendations!

Clubs, organizations & involvement
I’m part of club tennis, which has been a great way to meet people and get involved on campus. Practices are super chill and fun, and we also have social events like formals throughout the year. For anyone who wants to be more competitive, there are also opportunities to play in tournaments against other schools!

Describe your college experience
Coming to UMD was a pretty easy transition since I’m from Maryland and already knew the area. My experience so far has been great- I’ve enjoyed seeing familiar faces from high school while also meeting lots of new people and making new friends.
Tip for future students
I think it’s completely okay if you don’t know exactly what you want to do coming into college. Use your Gen Ed requirements to your advantage and take classes in different fields that interest you. It’s a great opportunity to explore your interests and figure out what you enjoy before deciding on a path.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been social psychology because I loved learning about how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by the people and environments around us. It was especially interesting to connect what we learned to everyday interactions and relationships!
Career goals
After college, I hope to attend medical school and eventually become a doctor.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be going to the Eppley pool with my friends. Our pool has a waterslide, and they often host evening movie nights by the pool, which makes it a fun and relaxing way to spend the evening together.
High school or secondary school
Walter Johnson High School
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is the La Plata Beach turf. I love sitting there with friends to study, play cards, or throw around a frisbee- it’s a great place to relax and enjoy time outside between classes.
