Outgoing band kid with great tips to reducing stress

Hey! I'm Kayla, the most relaxed overachiever you’ll come across. I came to NYU with massive imposter syndrome but now I can proudly say that I belong here! As a proud band kid, you’ll probably find me holed up listening to jazz music, plotting how I’ll make time to play along. I’d be honored to give you the best advice I can– if I could make anyone’s transition to college easier, I’d be the happiest person in the world. I can also offer the best quick food (and napping) spots!

Describe your college experience

My transition to college was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life! I'm so grateful for the transition because of how it shaped my mindset and put me in a position of greater responsibility. In being a commuter student, I've also grown tremendously in areas of time management as well as emotional regulation.

Tip for future students

I wish I knew how important time-keeping would become. My best piece of advice is to time block your days! It's like setting up appointments but with yourself. Time blocking makes the days go by less unpredictably, and ultimately more productively!

Favorite class

My favorite class has been my Arts and Cultures class because I love learning about art styles, periods, and how they connect with different cultures.

Career goals

I hope to contribute my skills to a job in the medical field, to then go to medical school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love a fun night out with friends and meeting new people! On the days I'm feeling like having a night-in, my go to is putting on a Disney movie and eating a savory food!

High school or secondary school

Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music

Favorite spot on campus

I love the Commuter Den in Lipton because of its dimly lit environment and comfortable seating!
