Describe your college experience
The transition with my placement test was not fun, but it taught me that not everything goes as planned, and that it's okay to not be in a rush all the time! It's okay to enjoy college life. I have loved getting to know people, and have become a different, more confident version of myself since I have been here. Be open to anything!
Tip for future students
Join any clubs that stand out to you and join/leave as you please. Honestly, you will find people who have similar interests and lifelong friends wherever you go, so just be yourself and do what you want, finding people along the way. Also, one day, and even smaller, one thing at a time!
Favorite class
I loved EALC 230 (Contemporary Popular Cultures in East Asia) because it was an insanely interesting and easy class. We got to learn about East Asia, write our thoughts about subjects, and do a fun final project that was literally making our own meme (plus a short paper explaining it).
Career goals
I am so open to anything. I might do JET program (Japanese-Exchange Teaching) in Japan since I got a reference from a teacher. I might go to graduate school in Hawaii or Indiana. Maybe I will stay in Urbana and take a gap year while I save money. Eventually, my long-term goal is to work in the entertainment industry and translate from Japanese/Korean media to English through adding subtitles.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I enjoy doing a variety of things. Sometimes I watch YouTube, sometimes I paint or draw with my acrylic markers, or make bracelets. Sometimes I like to watch Arcane with friends and grab McDonald's, or maybe I go to the bar during the school year.
