My name is Madeline, but you can call me Maco! I'm a fourth-year student double majoring in Vocal Performance and Broadcast Journalism, and I've served on executive boards for three different student organizations at MSU. You can often find me reporting with WKAR News or singing nationally with State of Fifths acapella! I'm very chatty and have LOADS of niche knowledge about all of campus through my reporting work and participation in different clubs. I'd love to guide you through MSU and give advice about multitasking, work-life balance, and managing it all. Some fun facts: I have a deep love of seals, I write poetry and horror fiction, I enjoy listening to indie music and can often be found playing video games with my friends!

Describe your college experience

I am a first-generation college student who didn't even know what she wanted to major in until she was accepted to school! I immediately jumped into double majors: music and journalism. I've been packed to the gills with things to do between clubs, academics, study abroads and more -- but I've met people I consider the greatest friends I'll ever have and (hopefully) my husband!

Tip for future students

It's very tempting to over-plan and try to fit in as much as you possibly can.. but you WILL burn out. The best thing you can do is focusing on enjoying the time you get to spend with a wide variety of amazing people.

Favorite class

I absolutely LOVED JRN 306: Broadcast News with Troy Hale! Us students had a unique opportunity to get practical experience with anchoring for TV news, interviewing, filming and so much more.. on top of that, the Professor Hale was so personable and supportive of everything I do!

Career goals

I'll be working as a multimedia journalist in the mid-Michigan or Chicago area, likely with a local radio or TV station. I'd also really like to stick with music post-grad, still auditioning for community theatre and opera!

Ideal way to spend a free night

A quiet night in at my apartment playing board games or Dungeons and Dragons with a group of close friends.. or a late night Taco Bell run!
