Hi! I'm Kate, a sophomore who is double majoring in International Affairs and Marketing. I am a part of a sorority and many clubs on campus. If I'm not in class or in club meetings, I'm usually out with friends sunbathing in U-yard! I love GWU and everyday try to bring the energy, history, and personality of Foggy Bottom to life. GWU isn't just a college, it's a story woven through D.C's culture, politics, and community! I am passionate about showing people the version of GWU that has continued to change me for the better.

Describe your college experience

I traveled all the way across the country to come to GWU and at first I was quite nervous because I knew absolutely no one but soon enough, I found my people. I feel like I have already grown so much as a person just from being at GWU for a year and have learned so much about myself, that I don't think I would have learned elsewhere.

Tip for future students

My tip is to always say yes when people invite you somewhere especially in the first week of school! Community is so important so if someone invites you to the dining hall and you already ate, still say yes to going just for the company and to strength your relationships with your peers. My academic tip is to always go to office hours and email your professors, especially if you are confused on a topic! The professors at GWU are all so nice and just want to help their students succeed, but you need to reach out first.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been my language courses (Chinese and Japanese). Despite the classes being incredibly hard, I learned so much and I learned the value of doing something hard. I met so many great people and experienced great opportunities just by putting myself out there by doing something hard!

Career goals

I hope to work for the state department or participate in the JET program where I'd be sent to Japan to teach English to highschoolers!

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is to first get dinner with friends. If there is a GWU sporting event going on, then we will always go to that and chat with the people around us to get to know the student body better. If there is no sporting event or performances happening, then I like to invite my friends to dinner, then for a walk around campus, before settling to hang out and talk at U-yard.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place on campus is Kogan Plaza because that is where everyone comes together, whether you're heading to the library or getting something to eat. Due to all the foot traffic, it has great positive energy.
