Hi! I'm Rozhina, a junior at UCSB studying biology on the pre-dental track. I love being involved on campus and meeting new people. My favorite part of UCSB is the welcoming community, beautiful campus, and all the opportunities to get involved. I'm excited to share my experiences and help prospective students get a feel for what it's like to be a Gaucho.

Describe your college experience

Transitioning to college was an exciting yet challenging experience that pushed me to become more independent and step outside of my comfort zone. When I first arrived at UCSB, I had to learn how to navigate a new environment while finding communities that made campus feel like home. Joining organizations like Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), a pre-health fraternity, and the Persian Student Group (PSG) helped me build meaningful connections and become more involved in the UCSB community. Through AED, I have been able to connect with students who share my interests in healthcare and gain professional experiences, while PSG has allowed me to connect with my cultural community and meet students with shared experiences. These organizations have shaped my college experience and shown me the importance of finding a supportive community. As a tour guide, I hope to help prospective students see the many opportunities UCSB offers and feel excited about becoming part of the Gaucho community.

Tip for future students

One of the biggest things I wish I knew before starting college was the importance of being open to new experiences and not being afraid to put yourself out there. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed at first, but getting involved, introducing yourself to others, and taking advantage of the resources available can make the transition much easier. I encourage future students to explore different organizations, attend events, and find communities that make them feel supported. I also learned that college is about more than just academics. It is an opportunity to grow, discover new interests, and build meaningful connections. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, ask questions, and create your own experience. Everyone’s journey looks different, so focus on finding what makes you happy and making UCSB feel like your own home.

Favorite class

My favorite classes so far have been the Intro to Biology classes, specifically the lab. I am a very hands-on person and learning about so many different things while also experimenting was very interesting and fun.

Career goals

My plan after college is to go to dental school to become a dentist and to eventually open my own private practice.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is to hang out with my friends, go to a party, or staying home and making dinner and playing board​/​card games with my housemates and friends.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the beach on Del Playa. I love the beach and being so close and being able to walk there in only a few minutes is amazing.
