Hi, my name is Abby. I’m a finance student at the Leeds School of Business. I’m passionate about school spirit and staying involved on campus. Whether it’s dressing all out for football games or participating in 5k’s for clubs I’m there! I’m currently a fitness coach and a math tutor which has given me the opportunity to connect with many students from many different backgrounds. Describe your college experience

Of course, at the beginning, it was very daunting, but as I reminisce on my freshman year, I have nothing but a grin on my face. I learned so much academically, but also socially and emotionally. I only lived about 30 minutes away from home so I was able to see my family quite frequently however I was able to also live my own life up in Boulder. I was so lucky where my dorm room was because my closest friends were my neighbors. We would do movie nights, get FroYo, in the last night of college we actually had a mega sleepover. I have nothing but excitement to go back to school next year

Tip for future students

The biggest piece of advice I could give is rejection is redirection. I know this is something people just say to help cushion your feelings when things don’t go your way. However, in my case, I couldn’t appreciate rejection enough. My whole life I was set on getting into one university. My dad went there. I had family that lived nearby. It was the perfect school and I was gonna have the best four years of my life there. Little did I realize when I opened the letter I was rejected. I was devastated. I felt like my whole world was shattered. The next day I got my acceptance into CU Boulder and I knew that’s where I was going whether I liked it or not. Every day I am so grateful that I got rejected from that school because I know I ended up where I was meant to be. I can’t imagine anyway my freshman year could’ve gone better. I got to meet new friends, go to Australia, and have an internship in the field that I want to work in. So I know it’s corny but everything does happen for a reason.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far is math 1112 which is a business Excel class. I had never worked with Excel before, and I was extremely overwhelmed at the beginning however, I learned all the cool things that I will be using the rest of my life. I loved it so much that I became an undergrad course assistant in that class. Spreadsheets aren’t very cool however, when you understand them and can make things actually happen from them, it’s rewarding to see the result

Career goals

After college, I hope to be a wealth manager. I want to work on the client facing side of wealth management. I want to be able to help people understand where their assets are being allocated and how I can help them achieve their goals!

Ideal way to spend a free night

I would probably go out with some friends to play pickle ball or mini golf. Get frozen yogurt with them afterwards. Get settled in and watch a funny movie.
