In high school, I was in band, and I played clarinet. I moved three times before attending my final high school. When it came time for me to apply to college, I was scared, but I eventually found my way around, and I don’t regret it. Now, I still get to do what I did in high school by teaching high school students how to march and play in the fall. In my free time, I like to write and watch movies. A fun fact about me is that my favorite food is chicken, but my favorite fast food is Whataburger. Clubs, organizations & involvement

I am involved in the largest young adult council of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), where I have done several community service projects to better serve the Hispanic community within and throughout Bryan-College Station. I am currently Director of Mentorship Programs. I am in charge of sustaining our high school mentorship program, where our council gives tutoring, college preparation, and STEM activities to the school. Our council also held the inaugural LULAC Young Adult Leadership Conference. I am also involved in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). This is a professional organization that I serve as Vice President. We host guest speakers who are established professionals in HR from various well-known companies, e.g., Amazon, Caterpillar, EY, and Lockheed Martin. We also host several socials and fundraisers for students within the organization.

Describe your college experience

My transition was difficult because I didn’t have any good friends coming to Texas A&M, so I felt lonely for almost my entire first semester. I joined an organization, but still didn’t feel really close to anyone; I was surrounded by friends, but not my best friends. After the first semester, though, I finally connected with a lot of other peers with whom I wasn’t very good friends yet. And all of those friends I still have today, and I wouldn’t be here without them. Academically, it was a difficult transition, too, but it’s not impossible. You continue to learn about what works best and what doesn’t for you as you make mistakes. I wouldn’t take any of those mistakes back, though, because that’s how I got to where I am today.

Tip for future students

Get out of your comfort zone! Growing doesn’t happen with routine and comfort. You have to do things you never did in high school because this is the time in your life when you will see yourself grow the most. You have to find who you are and what you like.

Favorite class

I took an ice skating class as a science elective. That class has been my favorite because it was something I wanted to learn to do and it was a small class so I got to meet a lot of new people.

Career goals

I want to go into Human Resources right after college, but long term goal is to become a woman exec within HR.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Like I said before, I like to watch movies, cartoons, or write. I also like to go out on weekends with my friends and just hang out anyway we can.
