I'm a Psychology major and a proud Kresge affiliate at UC Santa Cruz. I was lucky enough to live on campus for two years, and this campus has given me lifelong friendships, incredible opportunities, and so many unforgettable memories. I've truly fallen in love with both Santa Cruz and the UCSC community. Describe your college experience

I chose UCSC because I loved being close to the beach and knew it had great opportunities for psychology majors. Moving away from home was definitely the hardest part of the transition since I'm from Southern California, but it didn't take long before UCSC started to feel like a second home. The friendships I've made here have become like family and has taught me that love has many different forms. Sometimes it's the people who choose to be there for you that end up feeling the most like home.One of my favorite memories was taking a walk on the west side of campus behind the Music Center when I came across a huge buck and a group of juvenile deer chasing each other through the trees. It was such a peaceful moment, and it reminded me how special it is to go to school somewhere where nature is part of your everyday life. Moments like that are what have made my college experience so special. I've also fallen in love with Santa Cruz—Sunny Cove is one of my favorite spots because the water is beautiful and it's such a fun place to spend the day. Looking back, I'm most proud of how much I've grown as a person. I never considered myself much of a people person, but UCSC has helped me build lasting friendships and become much more confident and outgoing because of how much everyone around you values community.

Tip for future students

Give yourself time to explore both campus and Santa Cruz. Some of my favorite memories have come from trying new coffee shops, spending time at the beach, and just walking around campus with friends. College goes by faster than you think, so make time for the little moments, not just your classes. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Visualizing Abolition Studies with Dr. Rachel Nelson. It was actually the first GE I ever took, and it ended up being one of the most memorable classes I've had at UCSC. I had thoughtful conversations with classmates, and learn about topics I'd never been exposed to before. It made me appreciate how much you can grow from taking classes outside your major, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a really engaging GE.

Career goals

After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in Industrial-Organizational (I​/​O) Psychology, where I can help create healthier, more supportive workplaces. I'm especially interested in understanding what motivates people, improving workplace culture, and helping employees thrive. Eventually, I'd also like to earn a graduate degree so I can continue growing in the field and make a meaningful impact on organizations and the people who work in them.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is having a bonfire at the beach with my friends. There's nothing better than watching the sunset, listening to music, making s'mores, and spending hours talking by the fire.
