Describe your college experience
My experience at Boston University has been transformative. As a Data Science graduate student at BU MET, I’ve had the opportunity to combine deep academic learning with real-world application. I work as a Teaching Assistant, mentor students, and collaborate on data-driven projects that tackle meaningful problems. BU's diverse community, supportive professors, and the vibrant energy of Boston itself have helped me grow both professionally and personally. Coming from Almaty, Kazakhstan, I’m grateful for the challenges and opportunities BU continues to offer - it’s truly a place where hard work meets endless potential.
Tip for future students
1. Don’t be shy to speak up - your accent is part of your story. BU is super diverse, and people here value different perspectives. Use that to your advantage! 2. Talk to people - classmates, professors, event speakers. Every connection can lead to unexpected opportunities at BU and beyond. 3. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, so plan your weeks ahead and leave room for rest. Balance is key to surviving and thriving at BU.
Favorite class
One of my favorite classes at BU has been Data Mining. It’s hands-on, challenging, and incredibly useful - we worked with real datasets, built machine learning models, and learned how to uncover patterns in complex data. It taught me how to turn raw information into real insights, which I now use in my projects and research. Plus, the professor made the class super engaging and practical!
Career goals
After college, I hope to launch my own AI-powered startup that solves real-world problems in education or healthcare. I want to build something meaningful that combines technology, social impact, and my global experience - starting from Boston, but reaching people worldwide.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal night in Boston? Grabbing a hot chocolate from La Burdick store, visit public library, walking along the Charles River at sunset, and ending the evening with friends at a cozy spot in Back Bay or catching live music in Cambridge. Simple, chill, and full of good vibes.
