Future Lawyer and GW Campus Enthusiast

Hi! My name is Ananya Karthik, and I am a rising second-year student at The George Washington University majoring in Political Science on the pre-law track. I am actively involved in Greek life and a variety of organizations across campus, and I am excited to be your all-inclusive guide to everything GW has to offer. During my first year, I became a writer for the Justice Journal publishing legal analysis through our Pre-Law Student Association. Additionally, I joined Compass Impact Consulting, the #1 club within the GW School of Business, through which we provide sustainability-focused consulting to nonprofit organizations throughout the DMV area. Lastly, I became a member of both a social sorority and a pre-law fraternity. These experiences have allowed me to grow as a leader, build an incredible network, and connect with students from all different backgrounds. As your tour guide, my goal is to give you an authentic look at life at GW. Beyond showing you our beautiful campus, I want to share the opportunities, traditions, resources, and hidden gems that make this university such a special place. I look forward to getting to know you, answering your questions, and helping you envision what your own GW experience could look like.

Describe your college experience

Like many prospective students, I wasn't completely sure that GW was where I would ultimately end up. Coming to college was exciting, but it was also a big transition. Looking back now, I can confidently say that choosing GW was one of the best decisions I've ever made. What made the biggest difference in my first year was saying "yes" to new opportunities. I stepped outside of my comfort zone, got involved on campus, met people with similar interests, and discord communities that quickly made GW feel like home. Through student organizations, academic involvement, and Greek life, I found mentors, lifelong friends, and experiences that have challenged me to grow both personally and professionally. One of the things I love most about GW is that your college experience is truly what you make of it. The people you meet, the organizations you join, and the opportunities available in Washington D.C. create an environment where you can explore your interests and build skills that extend far beyond the classroom. My first year taught me to take advantage of every opportunity, and I hope to encourage prospective students to do the same. I can't wait to share my experiences and show you why I believe GW is an incredible place to learn, grow, and thrive.

Tip for future students

My biggest piece of advice is to say "yes" to opportunities even if they feel outside your comfort zone. Join the club that interests you, attend the networking event even if you are the youngest in the room, introduce yourself to new people, and don't be afraid to try something new.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been the PSC 1000 dean's seminar. Dean's Seminars are exclusive courses offered only to-first year students, providing a unique opportunity to engage in small, discussion-based classes. I took Politics of Information, where I explored the powerful role that media plays in shaping politics, public opinion, and government. The course challenged me to think critically about the information we consume every day and gave me a deeper understand of how media influences political decision-making in today's world.

Career goals

I hope to attend law school and pursue a career in corporate or big tech law.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is in bed with a snack watching my current Netflix fixation.

High school or secondary school

South Brunswick High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite place on campus is Kogan Plaza because it embodies the energy and community of GW. I love studying there because I can focus on my work while still feeling connected to the people around me. Being surrounded by students going about their day creates an atmosphere that is both motivating and welcoming, making it one of the places where I feel most at home on campus.
