Describe your college experience
At first, it was difficult transitioning from high school to such a big college with more rigorous classes and a fast pace environment , but with the help of IGNITE and speaking with my advisors and mentor, I’ve grown to find my place here! Of course I have more to learn and a lot more space to grow, but the environment and the people has made my experience here so much more easygoing.
Tip for future students
I would say bring your best pair of walking/hiking shoes! UC Santa Cruz has many hills, so bring a good pair of shoes to walk to class in! The hiking trails you can find are also beautiful as well, so you won’t want to miss out on those. I would also say don’t be afraid of the people here. Everyone is so outgoing and easy to talk to for the most part! You won’t have trouble making friends if you put yourself out there! Lastly, get a Bcycle pass! The busses can get full or delay sometimes, so using the bikes can be very useful and fun! You can also ride them into the city if you’re ever going on a quick grocery run.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been my Public Speaking theater class. It helped me so much with my anxiety around performing or auditioning for shows, and gave me great skills on regulating my anxiety when I am!
Career goals
After college, I want to be a clinical psychologist. I want to focus more on the development side of psychology, so I want to work with babies and younger children!
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be to refresh myself, get into my best pajamas, and put on a good show with some fruit and snacks! I also love listening to music and dancing in my room, it brings my energy up!
