Friendly Design major who knows all the best things that MSU & EL has to offer.

Hi! I’m Mahathi, and I’m a graphic design student here at Michigan State University. I’ve always been a creative person, so graphic design felt like a natural fit for me, but one of my favorite things about MSU is that there’s so much more to experience beyond just your major. There are so many opportunities, events, and experiences that I’ve been able to take part in that I probably wouldn’t have experienced otherwise. I also really appreciate how welcoming MSU is to students from all different backgrounds. As an Indian student, one thing that has meant a lot to me is being able to celebrate things like Diwali here on campus. Even though I’m not at home, I still get to celebrate with other students, experience the traditions, and have that feeling of community. I think that’s something really special about MSU. You get to meet people who share your background while also being exposed to so many different cultures and perspectives. There’s always something new to discover, whether it’s campus events, getting involved in different activities, or even visiting places like the MSU Planetarium, which is such a unique experience. I really feel like MSU gives you the opportunity to make your college experience your own, and I’m excited to show you around today and share some of the things that have made my experience here so special!

Describe your college experience

As everyone knows college is a big change from high school, not only are we learning in an entirely new way but most people also are living far from home. I feel like the biggest challenge I had when I first started college was living in a new environment so far from home. It was a struggle at first but having an accommodating roommate and community was what got me through the tough times.

Tip for future students

There would be quite a lot but if in terms of education then it would be always explore your interests before choosing a major. If it about dorm life then it would be to bring multiple fans for your dorm. If it’s about college life in general then it would be that make lots of friends because it’s rare everyone’s schedules will allow them to be free at the same time.

Favorite class

I liked ISP 205L the most as not only did I learn a lot in that class the environment I learned it in was also amazing. This class was a lab for the lecture about astronomy. My classroom was located in the MSU planetarium.

Career goals

I hope to get a job as a graphic designer in either an advertising company or marketing department in a company.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Depending on the day, I would either get together with my friends and watch a movie or go out to a movie or cafe, or I would spend the day in by myself and catch up on a few of my hobbies.
