First-generation undergrad alum ('26) + current grad student!
Hello, I'm Mackenzie! I am a recent alum ('26). I graduated with two degrees with honors as a first-generation student! I chose to stick around and complete a master's degree, too. Having been around for a while and involved in a wide variety of campus happenings, I can help you decide if UMich is right for you (and give you the inside scoop)!

Describe your college experience
I was introverted and worried about making friends when I first started at the University of Michigan in 2022. However, during my freshman year, I was able to get involved in ways that were meaningful and surrounded me with the community I needed! I really came out of my shell... Michigan undergrad was the best 4 years of my life.
Tip for future students
Get out of your comfort zone! Do something that you wouldn't choose to do. I joined some clubs and took classes that got me out of my comfort zone and grew because of it.
Favorite class
History 499: This class was my honors thesis course, spread over two years. I created lifelong friends and a meaningful thesis that I was proud of, award winning and all!
Career goals
I'm currently attending the UM School of Information in pursuit of an M.S. degree focused on library, archives, and data management. After finishing up my Master's, I hope to work in an academic library!
Ideal way to spend a free night
Either winding down and watching a movie with friends or going out on the town!
High school or secondary school
Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School
Favorite spot on campus
Comet Coffee, Shapiro Library (the UGLI), 1824, and the Angell Hall Living Room. All four are great places to study and connect with friends! I've spent many, many, late nights at the UGLI especially.
