Hi! I'm Tiffany, a first-generation college student at UC Santa Barbara studying Sociology while pursuing the Applied Psychology minor. Before transferring to UCSB, I earned three associate degrees, including Psychology, and I'm passionate about helping future students feel confident about their college decision. As a student parent balancing academics, research, campus employment, and leadership roles, I've experienced many sides of UCSB. I can share honest insight about academics, campus resources, financial aid, transferring, student life, balancing work and school, research opportunities, and what it's really like to attend UCSB. Describe your college experience

My college experience has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. As a first-generation transfer student and single parent, balancing academics, work, research, leadership, and family responsibilities has required resilience, organization, and determination. Despite the challenges, I've found an amazing community at UCSB through research, student leadership, and campus employment. These experiences have helped me grow academically and personally while preparing me for graduate school and a career in psychology. Every challenge has strengthened my confidence and reinforced my commitment to helping others succeed.

Tip for future students

Don't be afraid to ask for help - there are more resources available than most students realize. Attend office hours, get involved in student organizations, and build relationships with professors and classmates. Take advantage of research opportunities, campus events, and academic support services. Remember that everyone has a different journey, so don't compare yourself to others. Stay organized, be open to new experiences, and trust that asking questions is one of the best ways to grow.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been CNCSP 101: Introduction to Helping Skills. It strengthened my communication skills, taught me the importance of empathy and active listening, and reinforced my passion for psychology. The course gave me practical skills that I can apply both personally and professionally, and it confirmed my goal of becoming a mental health professional.

Career goals

After graduating from UCSB, I plan to pursue graduate school in psychology and become a licensed mental health professional. My goal is to provide counseling and advocacy for individuals and families while continuing to participate in research that improves access to mental health services. I also hope to mentor future students, especially first-generation, transfer, and nontraditional students, and help them navigate higher education with confidence.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is a balance of relaxation and quality time. I enjoy watching the sunset at the beach, trying a local restaurant or coffee shop, spending time with family and friends, or having a quiet evening with a good movie or book. Sometimes I'll catch up on schoolwork so I can enjoy the rest of my week with less stress.

Favorite spot on campus

One of my favorite places on campus is the lagoon and the surrounding paths. It's a peaceful place to take a break between classes, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate what makes UCSB unique. I also enjoy spending time around the UCen, where students come together to study, eat, attend events, and connect with the campus community.
