Hi, I'm Andre. I'm a Business Psychology major at Thurgood Marshall in UCSD, and I started a company at 17 that I'm still running between classes, which has made me an unwilling expert on whcih buildings have working outlets and which ones lie about their WiFi. I'm from LA, so I showed up assuming I already knew what a California campus felt like. Then I found out you can walk out of a midterm and be standing on a cliff over the Pacific twenty minutes later...that has not gotten old. You'll usually find me sipping a coffee at Oceanview Terrace in the morning, or hiding out at the 17th-floor lounge of the new Marshall "skyscraper dorms" when a deadline is closing in. I've give this tour a dozen times unofficially, to cousins, friends' families, and to anyone who happened to visit me, because I actually like doing it. So you'll get the famous stuff, but also the study spots that nobody posts about (because they're too good to advertise), which dining halls are worth the walk, and a straight answer on what the workload can really feel like week to week. Describe your college experience

As a student with no siblings to experience college before me, I was the nervous kid going into the real world for the first time. That nervousness quickly fell into wide-eyed optimism at all the opportunities and experiences that college had to offer, for both professional and social development. From finding my rhythm going to watch the sunset each weekend, to having coffee chats with my professors, to making to taking just about any class I found interesting, college has had so much to offer, leaving me wishing for nothing more than to have others have the same fortune I'm having.

Tip for future students

Try everything at first. Go broad first, then narrow down. If you are unsure what to do professionally, this is the best way to find out. Even if you do know, you never know if you find some other hobby or passion you didn't know you had before. Go to random free events, make use of the resources, and don't let the tuition go to waste! It's the best time to truly experience all that life has to offer at a young age, when all the opportunities are pooled right within a walking distance. You'll regret not experiencing what you could have, better to live life with experiences rather than regrets.

Favorite class

MGT 167 - Social Entrepreneurship. Taught by the ex-CEO of Girlscouts, Professor Jo Dee Jacob is an absolutely amazing professor who brings in top-tier guest lecturers. Networking, field trips, etc, you grow not just academically, but as a person through this class.

Career goals

Continue education in a top business school, pursuing my MBA. However, professionally founded my own business and plan to scale the venture and eventually exit, starting new ones that the platform of a business school would be able to provide.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Finish watching the sunset, take the bus back to the campus, grab some bbq plate at The Rooftop dining hall, go to the market and grab a treat, sit down in the dorm and watch a movie ​/​ hang out with suitemates.

Scripps Institute of Oceanography, by far. Beach views!! Fantastic study spots, that doubles as a burrito + decompress spot. Plently of scattered benches with ocean views everywhere, so you can find your own "favorite spot".
