Entomology and Japanese major, involved in campus, eager to answer questions!

Hello! My name is Charlie and I have been studying at MSU for three years now. My dual Entomology and Japanese majors mean that I have quite a wide overview of things on campus. Any questions about student resources? Study abroad? Internships? I can answer all of these and more. I'll also be able to show you around campus and answer any questions about the facilities themselves. If your student is transferring in as a freshman, they will have to stay on campus for two years. I can give the inside scoop on which dining halls are alright and which to stay away from, where all the good study spots are and which ones get too crowded, and even talk about cool places to go off campus. I came here from out of state three years ago without knowing anything, and now I'd say I'm very well versed in all forms of student life. Mostly, I'm just excited to pass the knowledge onto new students. Anything you want to see, you can, in person or virtual.

Describe your college experience

I have had a great experience at MSU. Thanks to joining a lot of clubs, I was able to quickly find friends who have made my experience great. I have had a few issues with professors, but overall the good far outweighs the bad.

Tip for future students

Join a club! It can be really hard to make friends if all you do is show up for classes. You don't have to stick with that club, but showing up to the first few meetings and gathering a friend group is incredibly valuable.

Favorite class

Aquatic Entomology has probably been my favorite class so far. A large component of the class is going outside into streams and rivers to collect insects and then identifying those insects in the class. I loved learning about what lived in the water around here.

Career goals

I want to work to make agriculture more sustainable, especially on the pest control side of things.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Movie night or board games with friends

High school or secondary school

Favorite spot on campus

I love the Horticulture Gardens because they are incredibly pretty, but also in an area of campus that doesn't get a lot of traffic. They are the perfect spot to read my books.
