Enthusiastic Communications major who cracked the code to social/school balance

Hi! I’m Liv, a communications and media major who hopes to become the next big influencer. I am originally from Sacramento, California, but moving eight hours away to San Diego has been a completely new and eye-opening experience. You can usually find me lounging on the beautiful La Jolla shores beach, studying in Geisel Library with my sorority sisters, or attending a concert at one of the many venues in San Diego to see a small indie band. I know that the college system at UC San Diego can be confusing, but after getting lost five times my first week, I’m pretty sure I’ve mastered the campus. I can point out the best study spots, sporting facilities (I’m a big baseball and basketball fan), and I even have a ranking of all the dining halls on campus. Attending UC San Diego is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I can’t wait to share why!

Describe your college experience

My experience has been incredible. The UCSD campus is gorgeous, I have had many positive experiences with lecturers, and I have made friends that will last a very long time.

Tip for future students

My biggest advice for future students is to not fall behind in classes. It is really easy to get comfortable at the beginning of the quarter, but 10 weeks goes by quickly, and all of a sudden, it’s finals week and you haven’t studied. Get in the habit of using a calendar and learn to say no to things when you genuinely need time to focus on schoolwork or your mental health.

Favorite class

Personal Ethics at Work with Professor DeMill because he is the most engaging lecturer I have had the pleasure of learning from. He always opened the class up for debate on topics concerning what is ethical/not ethical, and we completed many interesting case studies focused on unethical business strategies.

Career goals

I hope to go into social media marketing as I thrive working creatively.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night is with my friends. We usually get ready together, go get food, and drive around town listening to music and talking.

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the Eighth College dorm buildings, which is where I dormed as a freshman. I was always the first to volunteer my place for late night hangouts and study sessions, so my dorm holds a lot of great memories. Plus, I have the best view of the beach from the kitchen and an amazing view of the city from my bedroom window. It is also right next to the La Jolla playhouse, and as a previous Theater major, it means a lot to be able to walk to student produced shows from time to time.
