Hello! My name is Hansini and I'm studying Data Science and Quantitative Economics at Tufts with a passion for problem-solving and connecting with people. Outside of my classes, I love diving into political discussions, dancing, and staying involved in the campus community in many other ways. As an extrovert, I thrive on meeting new people and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome. Whether it’s through organizing events or just chatting with friends, I’m always excited to share stories and learn from others. Reach out for an brutally honest and exciting tour with me!

Describe your college experience

Coming from a small, all-girls, private, Catholic High School, the transition to Tufts was made as smooth as possible throughout my pre-orientation and orientation weeks where people were extremely willing to reach out and up for anything. Joining a competitive dance team at Tufts and joining various clubs has also been an incredible way to meet people and grow my passions. In addition, the people in my residence hall have been open and inclusive and having phenomenal roommates definitely made my experience ten times better.

Tip for future students

The amount of students from private or prep schools here are more than you would expect, but from my experience they are all super kind even if they are intimidating at first. The first few weeks are when people are the most open to making friends, and after that they all stick with their friend groups for about the whole year, although I met and made my closest friend group in the beginning of sophomore year! Talking to older students and professors is really the best way to gain information you never would have had otherwise. Joining clubs and/or sports teams are great, if not the best way to create a close group of friends you can always rely on.

Favorite class

I loved my EN 1 class, Community Centered Engineering where the whole semester, we visited a middle school and elementary school in Boston in order to create board games for them. The main thing I learned was how important it is to include the people engineers design products for in the design process, and how much it can really improve the quality of a product.

Career goals

I would either like to become a lawyer, go into the finance field, or become a data analyst /scientist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Get a group of people together and either take the green line to the North End for some delicious Italian pastries, or movie night with baked goods and popcorn in the common room.
