Criminal Justice major with a passion for getting involved & creating community!
Hello! I’m Neve, a sophomore from New Jersey. I study Criminal Justice with a passion for psychology, and found an amazing community here at GW! I love spending time exploring DC, whether it be trying new restaurants in Georgetown or going for walks along the Potomac river. If you’re in need of recommendations for how to kill some free time, I can definitely be of help! One of my greatest experiences at GW would be the ability to immerse yourself in programs/clubs surrounding your major, hobbies, and interests. I am happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns!

Describe your college experience
Coming from a suburb into a city may seem like a big challenge, but I think the community at GW creates a smooth and exciting transition. Orientation begins once you arrive, and I found it was a great way to introduce students to each other, to the city, and all that GW has to offer. In addition, there are numerous events being held by upperclassman such as First Night Out, which consists of a “block party” full of clubs for incoming freshman to join. This was a crucial aspect for me because I had been looking for ways to become involved, and this was the perfect opportunity to fully immerse myself.
Tip for future students
The one thing I am so grateful I did during my freshman year was always saying yes. I knew that when I got to college, people would be forming their own groups, joining clubs independently, and I was worried about feeling lost. So I decided to accept any opportunities that came my way. I always said yes when invited to plans, even if I was feeling homesick. I always said yes to joining a new club, even if I knew it wasn’t for me. In doing so, I was able to grow my circle so large, and create amazing connections and friendships. Community is the most valuable thing that you can acquire while in college, especially at a school like GW where student body tends to act more independently.
Favorite class
Introduction to Philosophy: It was a great introduction during my freshman year to what was expected of college level courses. With immersive and interactive content, I was exposed to a new level of learning that helped me understand what was expected of me throughout coming semesters.
Career goals
After college, I hope to enter law school. Although I am still trying to figure out what career I would like to pursue, I know that I would like to do something within the criminal justice system, whether it be in forensic psychology or criminal law.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night would begin with a large dinner out with all of my friends. We love to explore spots throughout the city, especially off campus when possible. When the weather in DC is warm enough, we like to venture to areas with live music or public spaces to play cards. Finally, we would end up back on campus for a sweet treat. My personal favorite spot is Captain Cookie.
High school or secondary school
Columbia High School
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is Potomac Square, where I found myself spending almost all of my free time. Whether it would be during quiet afternoons alone doing homework, or early evenings with friends eating dinner, Potomac Square was always a hub for people to socialize, even if it was just in passing.
