Hi! I’m Deona, a current University of Maryland student who loves meeting new people and sharing the experiences that make college feel like more than just a place to take classes. As a student, I know there’s a lot about campus that you may not get to see with a standard campus tour -- from favorite study spots, sporting events, and campus traditions to the little places that make UMD feel like home. I’m involved in several different parts of campus life, including the Arts Scholars community, music and dance, and EMS. Because of that, I’ve gotten to experience UMD from a few different perspectives and love getting to share those experiences with others. Whether you’re considering UMD, visiting for the first time, or just curious about student life, I’d be excited to show you around and give you an authentic student perspective!

Describe your college experience
The transition was strange at first when jumping straight from moving in to starting classes within a few day, but it was like a switch went off. You can transition pretty easily into your classes if you keep organized and stay on top of assignments/project/exam dates. It continues to be pretty simple to transition, but there are times when you miss people you grew up with or family. Those moments can be tough however it is nice to find more people to communicate with and enjoy the experience.
Tip for future students
Stay on top of your assignments and ask for help early. These things are very important to help future students feel supported and a little less stressed.
Favorite class
DANC138C has been my favorite class because you meet an abundent amount of people from different majors who all just wanna dance. Our professor was also amazing in how he taught us as well ad the guest artists that came to dance with us.
Career goals
Working as a physician after utilizing my EMT training.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Reading, walking around campus, exploring different events/clubs on campus, hanging with friends, and watching movies are all way I spend my free time.

6th floor of Mckeldin library because it is quiet up there and the chairs are so comfy you could fall asleep.
