Describe your college experience
The transition to college, although a bit complicated at first, got easier throughout the semesters. I have found a close friend group as well as a network of professors who support my academic goals.
Tip for future students
I would make sure to be very prepared for the cold if you are not already, especially because it is cold throughout most of the academic year.
Favorite class
My favorite class so far has been Culture and Crisis in Modern and Contemporary Japanese Art, since this class solidified my interest in art history, and because of the professor's passion to teach about her academic interests and ensure that every student felt comfortable participating in class discussions. I was also particularly fond of the topic of the course since it explored the complexities of Japanese identity during the modern period.
Career goals
I am interested in museum roles specifically tied to curation, collections, and research, as well as higher education. My coursework has been centered on questioning existing systems of colonialism and their definitions of what art encompasses, which extend across centuries, in order to amplify and provide a platform for underrepresented individuals to demonstrate their agency. Particularly, I am interested in creating discourse in relation to oppressed histories, particularly of Indigenous communities, in academic settings, and exploring the existing political, religious, and cultural connections to the present that art generates.
Ideal way to spend a free night
The best way to spend a free night is to get off campus for a bit, explore the surrounding towns of Brunswick, and head down to the coast for scenic views with friends.
