Boston College sophomore!
Hi! I'm Alison, a sophomore majoring in International Studies. Between working at a coffee shop on campus, writing for The Heights, planning dorm events, and volunteering, I've gotten to know BC from a lot of different angles — as a student, an employee, and someone who genuinely loves connecting with people. I'm passionate about current events, policy, and history, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with others. Whether it's pointing out my favorite study spot or talking about why I chose BC, I want prospective students to leave their tour feeling like they already know what it's like to be here.

Describe your college experience
I struggled the first semester of college, because I was forcing an idea of a "perfect" college experience on myself. When I wasn't immediately excelling in all of my classes, or going to social events with a perfect friend group, I thought I was doing something wrong. Instead, I learned that the difficulties of freshman year mean that you are doing things right. It was only when I let myself relax and trust the process that I formed lasting connections and allowed myself to pursue my interests. My main takeaway - Don't force. Good things take time.
Tip for future students
College is a huge adjustment - the people that look like they have it all figured out, most of the time don't. The way I formed true friendships was by being vulnerable and admitting I was struggling. Most of the time, someone else is too. Go to office hours! Your professors truly want to help you. Get outside. I love to run, but even just a walk helped me to reset and unwind. I found a wooded trail by my dorm, which ended up being a lifesaver for me. Take it easy. You don't need to prove your worth. You are here for a reason.
Favorite class
My favorite class so far was Power of Ideas (History core). We explored many different thinkers from the 19th century to the present, and I found it fascinating how many different connections and comparisons could be made between such different people and ideas.
Career goals
I hope to go into a field related to law, government, or social work.
Ideal way to spend a free night
If I feel rested - I love to get dressed up and go out to dinner with my friends in the city. When I'm tired or stressed - I love to make myself a comfort meal and a cup of tea, read, and go to bed early.

Favorite spot on campus
Bapst Library: So quiet and peaceful, love the stained glass windows and gothic architecture. Calming place to study and reflect.
